My Video Depicting 6 Transitions

https://youtube.com/shorts/Uuo7gme3XVw

During the making of this short video, I learned of the specific processes that go into making these shots. I learned and better understood the jump cut, freeze frame, fade out, cross cut, cutting on action, and flash back. Before the making of this post, I had always believed that editing was a simple job that took little to no time at all. However, my experience with this video proves otherwise. Throughout the video, I had to plan out the accordance of the acting to the shot. I had also realized to what seemed like it would take 15 minutes of editing turned into around 35 minutes of editing. This experience has taught me that editing and filming though seem simple, are actually quite complex. They use lots of time and planning. My role throughout the video was the director or camera-man. I had created the plans for the actor, Yasseen Salama, to follow and did so in accordance to my idea of how the shots would turn out. As a result, I planned and created the video that meets all the requirements of 6 transitions.

Examples of Transitions

This video is an example of the transition known as a fade out. Specifically times 1:17 to 1:21 use this transition. This transition acts as a device that allows for a seamless transition from the present in a film to the past. This allows the audience to be at ease when new imagery is shown.

This video us an example of the transition known as cross cutting. Throughout the clip, this transition is used two show two moments that are happening in the same area. As this sequence cuts back and forth, it reveals a sense of urgency to the audience that this not just two scenes but they are two scenes that are happening right at that moment. The use of the rhetoric Kairos is clearly in use as it gives an urgency by placing a time constraint.

This video is an example of the transition known as flash back. Specifically times 2:17 to 2:19 use this transition. This transition acts as a device that cuts from the present in a film to the past, allowing for the audience to believe that this is a memory that they remember while being engaged in the virtual environment that theatrics gives.

This video is an example of a jump cut. Throughout the clip this transition is used in multiple instances as the character is fitting and using the lighter to describe how it fits in each length found. The jump cut removes a portion of the film allowing for an instant advance in the action sequence.

This video is an example of a freeze frame. The entire clip is an example of this transition as it shows the opposition in the film to be frozen in time and clearly depicts them as so. The use of this transition allows the character called quicksilver to go faster than everything around him as to show everything is slow to him. This creates a still image within the movie.

This video is an example of cutting on action. The times 2:27 to 2:29 depict a the use of the transition as it shows master Pai Mei dodging and moving past the brides attacks. The transition allows for the action to continue seamlessly from one shot to the next.
