Edit, Edit, Edit #23

In blog post number 15, "Prevalent Problems", I mentioned that I would be using HitFilm Express as my editing software. Now I did not explain my reasoning for this software very much before. Or as to even how I found it. So, this post will be covering the editing software that I will be using. HitFilm Express was found when I was doing research on free editing software applications. This one popped up and had a tutorial system on how to use it as well as seemingly endless possibilities. Seemingly that is. It was marketed as the fastest growing video editor and had grabbed my attention due to its positive reviews. I had first used this software on a previous assignment for this class. At that point in time this was my first real video editor that I had used. It worked well enough for that assignment specifically, but when I came to use it later on for a different assignment, I was underwhelmed by its performance especially since it had a very heavy impact on my dated computer...

Exploring The Equipment #22

Image
So on Sunday, not only was my footage oriented wrongly but I discovered an error with some of the packaging. As for a reminder, I had bought a tripod, a drone, 2 different types of SD cards, a 4k camera, a microphone, and a suction cup mount. The main tripod and drone were without complication. The same as well for the microphone and the suction cup mount. I had hit very pivotal bumps with the SD cards. This is blatantly shown in the series of misfortune as I would like to call it or otherwise known as blog posts 15 to 18. When I actually bought the correct SD card and inserted it into the camera, it stated that it was not formatted. I panicked a little bit until I realized there was an option built into the camera to format the SD card. Now as far as "exploring the equipment" goes nothing was broken when it came threw the packaging. The main tripod worked correctly with no issues or breakages. The suction cup mount was working like a charm as it indeed was able to stick to a...

Progress? #21

Sunday 19, 2023; The first day of production. Its safe to say that I definitely have gone so far off course that I will not be getting 2 weeks of production. In reality it seems I will be getting about 6 days. 2 days have already been used to film on the previous weekend. The original plan included 2 weeks of production time and 1 week of post production. In reality due to unforeseen circumstances, instead of two weeks I have about 6 days. As for post production, the planned time was one week, now that has changed to about 6 days. Time is a very important concept that must be efficiently utilized to complete this project. The filming done on Sunday was progress as we were able to capture footage. However, there were two issues with the footage. The first issue is the fact that I forgot to remove the date and time from the recorded footage. The second issue is the orientation of the camera. The date and time is viewable during filming and recording when it should only be viewable in the...

My Thoughts on the Expenses of the Film #20

Image
Some of the shots in the film will be quite...extreme. I bought a drone for aerial shots. I bought a camera with options to switch between standard high definition and 4k resolutions. I bought a tripod for different elevations. The drone is extreme in itself as I will be using it for very few shots. All the shots will be elevated to give reference of the environment. It will also give an idea of the grandness of the world to the audience. 40 percent of my spending budget is on a single drone with very little use. Furthermore I bought the much more useful camera which will be used in almost every shot. This camera takes up about 30 percent of my budget, making it quite affordable and worthy of such a buy. This due to this camera being the main camera to be used in every shot. All the while capturing clear imagery for the audience to view.   Last but not least, the tripods. The tripods will help keep the camera steady, and allow me to use different elevations. Along with t...

The Beginnings of Something Beautiful #19

So while my timing remains to be disastrous, I have gotten to work filming certain shots of the film. Specifically, I am filming a shot where the car would pull into a drive way. This shot would be the first introduction the character and would tie in the setting for the rest of the film. It would also represent a transition from one series of events to another. This specific shot represents the character and their vehicle leaving their home. From this point in time to the point in which the character arrives to the location. The only mention of the characters' physical features is his hands and fingers. This allows some thoughtful ideas from the audience as to how the character appears or what might he be doing. As a transition phase, this will depict the movement of the character from point A to point B. This shot will be one of many shots that will show thee movement of the car. There will be a variety of shots in which some will be on the windshield of the car and others on th...

The Misfortune is Strong in this One #18

Image
Previous posts have said of the unfortunate unlucky results i have obtained. This one is no different. In the 17th blog post I stated that I planned to buy it in store to gain time. Well, things did not go as planned. During my research of finding stores that which I could buy the SD card from, I would always be met with the specific type to be not available. I checked in stores stretching up to 48 kilometers away. After expanding my ranges out of desperation, I had located a card that's available for in store pickup. It seems the heavy toll comparable to Atlas and the earth had finally been lifted. It seemed that way. After looking at pickup options, it appeared that Best Buy didn't actually have the card in their store. They stated that they would need to have the card to be shipped from a warehouse to their store for pickup. With today's constant delays in shipping times and shortage in workers due to fears of a recession, I estimate it would take a week for the product...

A Streak of Misfortune #17

Image
While looking into and solving my previous issues. I had realized the timing of everything was completely wrong. I play tennis which takes up my time until about 5 pm everyday of the week. When I return home I have about 1 hour and 30 minutes of  time before dinner in which I usually use to work on assignments and tasks from my AICE classes.  After dinner, my family stresses the importance of 'family time' which reduces my general time to work on home work. On top of all this on Wednesdays I go to a chiropractor to improve the curvature of my back. In between all of these events, I realized that the mis-calculated buy of the SD card has been in bad timing. As a result, I have opted to another solution. My solution would be to do research online to find a TF card that is compatible with my camera. just not any TF card, it needs to be available for pickup from a store. This way, by this Wednesday the day of going to the chiropractor I plan to have the correct card. I will specif...

A Most Crucial Issue #16

Image
On February 4th, things took a turn for the worst. That day was the first day of production and filming. Earlier that day i had looked at all of my equipment in its shining glory. My camera, my drone, my tripod, my microphone and my micro SD card. It was as if nothing had seemed to be amiss that is until I arrived at the location for filming. I had a large duffel bag with inside it being all of the equipment except the drone. The drone was in its own box filled with protective foam as a precautionary measure against possible damages during the move of the items due to the fragile frame. I had set up all of my equipment and prepared for my first shot of the film. When I clicked "Ok" for the camera to start filming it came up with the notification that no card was inserted into the device. I realized i had forgotten to put in the SD card. After inserting the card and clicking "Ok" to film again i was given a different message. This time saying that the "storage d...

Prevalent Problems #15

Image
Progress has become hard to come by as I have hit a bottle neck. My thoughts are organized in the sense that I have my story board and script ready. However, I lack the equipment to begin production. This has caused a large delay in my schedule.  As such I have realized that this may not be as bad as it seems. While i maybe awaiting the forthcoming of my equipment, this gives me more time to plan my film. As such i did the one thing any good young cinematographer would do, planning. I immediately started on post production phase.  Now this may sound alarming as I have no footage or content to edit. However, I can begin to look for software's that can generate the resources i needed for editing. I began to do research on editing software's that can aid me in post production. I further decided i would not use the software that i have used on past projects simply because of rendering issues. My first look was the application Microsoft Clipchamp. This application is automatically ...
